Luan Ingram began her career with Union County Public Schools in 1979. Her first job with the school district was teaching English at Piedmont High School. She taught for 13 years. Her second job with the school district has been in Central Services working as the Chief Communications Officer. She has done this for the past 20 years.
The years she has spent in the Central Service Offices have been the high growth years for Union County and the school district. Student enrollment has increased about 130 percent over the past 17 years and has required numerous school bond referendum campaigns for her to develop and execute. The six campaigns she has led, have netted the school district $501.7 million dollars since 1998. Her experience and success in leading these campaigns have resulted in numerous state, regional and national conference invitations to share her expertise in election strategies. For the past five years she has been invited by the North Carolina Association of School Superintendents to train all new Superintendents in the state in media and public relations.
Under her leadership, the UCPS Communications Office has won numerous state and national awards for its publications and communications.
The National School Public Relations Association recognized Luan as a Front-Runner Award winner in 2005. This prestigious award is presented annually to four school public relations professionals in the nation.
In 2009, she was named the North Carolina School Public Relations Association’s Barry Gaskin Service Award winner, the top School PR professional honor in the state.
Luan is a proud native of Union County and a product of Union County Schools. She has been married to her husband Jim for 31 years. They have two adult children.
