The General Legal Counsel Division provides advice and guidance to the Superintendent and his staff; collaborates with Board of Education counsel; trains district staff on matters of legal significance; manages the representation by outside counsel and collaborates with educational leaders on matters impacting public education.

Michele joined UCPS in January 2008 as General Counsel after serving for more than 7 years at Associate General Counsel with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. Prior to that, she represented children to ensure that their needs have been met in academic settings.

She currently serves as an adjunct professor at Wingate University in their School of Adult and Graduate Education, a position that began in the summer of 2006. Michele is also the Secretary/Treasurer of the North Carolina Council of School Attorneys, on the Executive Council of the Education Section of the Bar Association of North Carolina and has served on several committees to draft proposed legislation to be presented to the NC General Assembly including the committee which recently rewrote the NC statutes regarding discipline in public schools.
