Rob Jackson, 2011 Wells Fargo NC Principal of the Year

Cuthbertson High School Principal Rob Jackson has been named the 2011 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year, the first Union County Public Schools principal to take the top state title.

"This award is incredibly humbling," he said. "Although my name was called out, the award really honors the amazing work of the Cuthbertson High School students and staff. They came together to create an amazing learning community. Their efforts, passion for learning, and quest for excellence earned this award."

Jackson was named during a dinner ceremony held in Cary on May 4, 2011 after being chosen as the 2011 Wachovia Southwest Region Principal of the Year in January. He was chosen by his peers as the Union County Public Schools 2010-2011 Principal of the Year in October 2010.

Globalization is one of the focuses at Cuthbertson High. The school has been selected by the UNC-Chapel Hill Center for International Understanding as a "North Carolina in the World Global Partner School" and was awarded a Danish School Partnership. For the past two consecutive years, Cuthbertson has been designated as a UCPS International School, achieving the highest points of any other UCPS school.

He was the first North Carolina Principal of the Year to receive a scholarship for a 10-day educational tour of China. Jackson says he hopes to eventually have a sister school partnership with a high school in China.
For being named the state's top principal, Jackson will be appointed to the State Superintendent's Principals' Advisory Committee, serve a one-year term as advisor to the State Board of Education, serve a one-year term on the Board of Directors for the NC Public School Forum, and will chair the 2012 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year Selection Committee.

Since 1984, Wachovia Bank (now Wells Fargo)has financially supported a program in collaboration with the Department of Public Instruction to recognize outstanding principals from the North Carolina public schools.
