Katelyn Lustig (Principal)
About Mrs. Lustig
Katelyn Lustig was named principal of Indian Trail Elementary at the June 2022 Board of Education meeting.
Mrs. Lustig is a native of New Hampshire, but has called the Indian Trail area home since 2006. Mrs. Lustig earned her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Western Carolina University and immediately began teaching third grade at Sun Valley Elementary School. Throughout her time there, Mrs. Lustig was recognized as a Fox 46 Teacher Getting Results and was awarded teacher of the year for the 2017-2018 school year.
Several years later, she became an Instructional Coach for Union County Public Schools, where she had the opportunity to support district-wide initiatives, develop curriculum, and partner with teachers to help improve instructional practices. Mrs. Lustig earned a master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Wingate University and was formerly the assistant principal at Indian Trail Elementary.
Mrs. Lustig resides in Indian Trail with her husband Dylan, son Jackson, and rescue dog Henry. She is an avid New England sports fan and enjoys spending time with her family, traveling,and exploring the great outdoors.
Mrs. Lustig is committed to making a difference in the school she serves and always looks to enrich the learning experience for all students. She believes in the potential in every student to be prepared for the future and values strong community relationships.

Emily Culberson (Assistant Principal)
About Mrs. Culberson
Mrs. Culberson is a native Charlottean. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from Appalachian State University. She continued her education by earning her Master's degree in Executive Leadership from Gardner-Webb University. She also earned her Academically and Gifted licensure from Salem College and National Board Certification in Literacy.
She is joining the Indian Trail family this year and has recently served as assistant principal of Cuthbertson Middle and Rea View Elementary. Before Rea View, she worked in the Charlotte-Meck. School district where she taught 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and gifted K-5. During her time in CMS she served in various leadership roles such as team lead, Student Council Advisor, Girls on the Run, Data teams, School Leadership Team, and leading Professional Development.
She is the youngest of three children. She is a proud aunt of four nephews and 1 niece. In her free time, she loves cheering on the Panthers and ASU Mountaineers, visiting the beach and the mountains, and relaxing with her husband, friends and family.
Mrs. Culberson enjoys getting to know students and having friendly conversations with them throughout the day. She feels very lucky to work with a wonderful staff, supportive parents, and amazing students.
