A person who wants to work in the After School Program must be 18 years of age and a high school graduate. There are After School Programs at 27 of the elementary schools across Union County so work locations are convenient. Each location has a program coordinator who is responsible for the operation of that location and at least one group leader who works directly with the children. The number of group leaders at a site is determined by enrollment. The workday begins at the end of the regular school day, usually about 2:00 p.m., until 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. On those days when full-day child care is offered, such as teacher workdays, winter or spring breaks, or summer camp, the program operates from 7:00 a.m. until 6:00 p.m.
Program coordinators work at least 30 hours per week and receive insurance and retirement benefits in addition to annual leave, sick leave, and holiday pay. Group leaders do not receive insurance or retirement benefits, but those who work at least 20 hours per week do receive annual leave, sick leave, and holiday pay. We also hire substitutes who are called when regular employees are unable to report as scheduled. The rate of pay for program coordinators is based on enrollment, education and experience. The rate of pay for group leaders is based on education and experience.
