    General Renewal Information:

~The North Carolina Professional Educator's Continuing License must be renewed every five years. (The 3-year Professional Educator's Initial License is non-renewable). The renewal process ensures that professional educators licensed as school personnel continually update their professional knowledge.

~Each professional educator’s license holder is responsible for knowing and satisfying his or her license renewal requirements as well as the fee ($35) associated with renewing his/her license. Continuously check your history in HRMS (intranet only) to confirm postings.  This should not just happen during your renewal year, as your submitted documentation/paperwork will not be kept past June 30th of the current year.

~For a Professional Educator's License to remain current, all credit must be earned by the expiration date of the existing Professional Educator's License.

~To renew an expired Professional Educator's Continuing License, please contact a UCPS Licensure Specialist for details and requirements.

~The window of time for annual renewal is April 15th through June 30th of the year that a license expires.

~All updates and renewals are completed via the NCDPI Online Licensure System. (Log in tip: an account should have been created with a personal email address; not a work email address.)

~How do I check my CEU history?
CEU-history may be viewed in HRMS (intranet only). Please read: How to check your CEU history in HRMSAfter reading the information in the previous link, then click on HRMS link  in the list of links on the left side of UCPS's Staff Development webpage. The PD transcript offered in True North Logic/NCEES notes only the PD/courses completed in TNL/NCEES. HRMS is currently the official record for your CEU history. Continuously check your history in HRMS (intranet only) to confirm postings.  This should not just happen during your renewal year, as your submitted documentation/paperwork will not be kept past June 30th of the current year.

~I have a surplus (over the minimum renewal CEU-requirement) of CEUs in a particular category, yet need more in another category, what do I do?

It depends.  If the surplus is truly applicable to other categories, then they might be able to be moved to other categories. Contact the CEU Coordinator.

There is no actual “General” column in the HRMS history screen. However, the following are ways to meet this requirement: anything credited to the “Other” column; a surplus in a required category or in a category with no requirement for your level (ex. HS—literacy); and a difference of uncategorized CEUs in the “Total CEU Credits” column.  Examples: If you have 3.9 in Content/Academic Area, the surplus of .9 will be seen as “General” without actually having to be moved.  If you have 6.25 Total CEU Credits with 2.25 credited to Content/Academic Area and 2 are credited to DLC, that translates to having 2.0 credited to “General”.

~I have a surplus of total CEU credits and I have met the minimum requirement for all CEU categories, will the surplus be rolled over to the next renewal cycle/period?

    No.
