  • Our School Counseling Program at Antioch Elementary 

     

    CLASSROOM LESSONS

    My goal is to support all students on their journey to living healthy, happy, successful lives. Classroom lessons provide me with an opportunity to teach important lessons to ensure that all Antioch Gators are growing emotionally as well as academically. These lessons range from feelings identification, to empathy, to study skills and include important topics such as respect and responsibility. These classes allow me to build a relationship with the students so they feel comfortable meeting with me one-on-one if necessary. If you’d like to learn more about classroom lesson topics, please feel free to reach out to me!

     

    SMALL-GROUP SESSIONS

    Small group sessions allow us to work on common issues while building communication skills with peers. These groups can consist of Friendship Groups, Impulse Control Groups, and others that present a need throughout the year. During these groups we discuss topics all group members have in common and take strides to build empathy in our students by providing an opportunity to know one another in a social capacity. I attempt to hold these weekly sessions during lunch so that students aren’t missing class time. Most groups run a minimum of 6 weeks and are a wonderful way for students to begin building confidence and finding their voice in a group setting!

     

    INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING

    I believe that working with students in a one-on-one capacity allows us to build trust and respect, as well as gives students an opportunity to voice their feelings and opinions. I use these sessions to allow students to begin to problem solve on their own, with a little guidance and direction from me. These sessions can consist of talk therapy, arts & craft, and sometimes even games when appropriate. It is my goal for your children to see me as a resource so that I can help them whenever they need a little extra support.

Hello!  I am your School Counselor!  I am very excited to be with you and your students this year!   I will be teaching guidance lessons as well as leading small groups and individual counseling sessions.  In all counseling activities, my objective is to engage in novel, culturally appropriate ways to enhance the academic, career, and personal/social development of all students.

  • Confidentiality Statement

    School counselors recognize their primary obligation for confidentiality is to the student but balance that obligation with an understanding of the family or guardians’ legal and inherent rights to be the guiding voice in their children’s lives (ASCA Code of Ethics).
    The role of the school counselor in regards to confidentiality is:

    • To support the students right to privacy and protect confidential information received from students, the family, guardian and staff members
    • To explain the meaning and limits of confidentiality to students in developmentally appropriate terms
    • To provide appropriate disclosure and informed consent regarding the counseling relationship and confidentiality
    • To inform students and the family of the limits to confidentiality when: Student poses a danger to self or others, Court ordered disclosure, Consultation with other professionals in support of the student i.e. colleagues, supervisors, treatment teams, and other support personnel
    • To keep personal notes separate from educational records and not disclose their contents except when privacy exceptions exist
    • To seek guidance from supervisors and appropriate legal advice when their records are subpoenaed
    • To assert their belief that information shared by students is “confidential” and should not be revealed without the student’s consent
    • To adhere to all laws protecting student records, health information, and special services (i.e., HIPAA, FERPA, IDEA)
