Dr. Chris Barnes
Dr. Chris Barnes is the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources for Union County Public Schools (UCPS). He has more than 20 years of experience in the education field, including working in various roles for school districts and nonprofit organizations.
Prior to coming to UCPS, Dr. Barnes was the Director of Human Resources for Whiteville City Schools. In that role, he was responsible for planning, directing, supervising, assigning and evaluating the school district's recruitment activities as well as developing and supporting initiatives designed to enhance the retention of effective teachers.
Dr. Barnes also served as a counselor, supervisor, program director and facility director for Eckerd Youth Foundations, Inc., a child and family service nonprofit that promotes the well-being of at-risk teens. Additionally, he worked as assistant principal at Western Guilford High School as well as principal at Sparta and Alleghany High schools.
Dr. Barnes has a bachelor’s degree in English from Saint Michael’s College, a master’s degree in School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Western Carolina University.
