Central Academy of Technology & Arts (CATA) is a comprehensive magnet high school that incorporates rigorous academic and technical education using an innovative academy concept in a nurturing environment that emphasizes experiential learning, relevant internships, community involvement, technical, artistic, and academic integration.  CATA  prepares  students to compete in a global society.

Students attending Central Academy complete all traditional high school requirements in addition to an intensive program of study within their chosen Academy.  This Academy program of study includes an additional 6 - 8 required courses and is similar to a college major course of study.  Academies offered at Central Academy include the following:  Pre-engineering (a Project Lead the Way based Academy), Information Systems (Software and Game Design, Computer Engineering, and CyberSecurity), Medical Sciences (a Project Lead the Way based Academy), Transportation (Automotive Technology and Collision Repair) and Performing Arts (Theatre, Dance, and Music Production and Recording Arts).

The 2017-2018 application period is scheduled for: February 13, 2017 through May 1, 2017 ( application), and the admission process culminates with a lottery at the end of June.  An open house, called the "CATA Crawl" occurs each February (2/21/17 and 2/23/17) for all students in the county. Individual tours are not offered.  Interested families should see the CATA Crawl video on the Central Academy website if they were unable to make these open house opportunities. The entrance requirements for consideration at Central Academy of Technology and Arts can also be found on the school website.

Early college high school is a bold approach, based on the principle that academic rigor, combined with the opportunity to save time and money, is a powerful motivator for students to work hard and meet serious intellectual challenges. Early college high schools are small schools designed so that students can earn both a high school diploma and an associate degree or up to two years of credit toward a bachelor’s degree. Early college high schools have the potential to improve high school graduation rates and better prepare all students for high-skill careers by engaging them in a rigorous, college preparatory curriculum and compressing the number of years to a college degree.
