Mrs. Sherry Richardson - Principal
Mrs. Richardson is a native of Union County. She received a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Wingate University and a Master of School Administration from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Mrs. Richardson also participated in the North Carolina Principal Fellows Program. She began her administrative career as the Assistant Principal at Indian Trail Elementary School. Mrs. Richardson served as the Assistant Principal and Principal at Indian Trail Elementary for seven years. Mrs. Richardson has served as Principal of Rocky River Elementary since 2010.
Prior to her role as an administrator, she taught both third and fourth grades at Prospect Elementary School. Mrs. Richardson taught for ten years. She stated she enjoyed teaching and misses the classroom community that you have a teacher; however she enjoys the interactions with over 850 students in her role as Principal.
When asked, what do you like most about being Principal of Rocky River, Mrs. Richardson stated, “The students! Whether it’s visiting classrooms and observing the students working and learning, or meeting with them for lunch, or awarding them with special awards, our students make my job fun and meaningful. It is my goal to ensure that all students are being taught in a way to help them be successful academically and emotionally.”
Mrs. Richardson and her husband, Lane, have three children; 21 year old Mattison, who is a senior in college and 11 year old twins, Colin and Aidan, that are currently in sixth grade. They enjoy family time at home, visits to the beach, reading and bike riding. “I am so lucky to have three wonderful children at home and 901 children at school,” Mrs. Richardson shared.
