Mrs. Deaton was raised in Stanly County, and she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from UNCC. Her teaching career began at Sardis Elementary, and she transferred to Fairview Elementary as a fourth-grade teacher when the new building opened in 2001. During this time, she attended Wingate University to obtain her Master’s Degree, became a National Board Certified Teacher, and was selected as a Top Ten Finalist in the UCPS Teacher of the Year Program.
Mrs. Deaton returned to Wingate University to obtain licensure in School Administration. In 2006, she was named Assistant Principal at Fairview Elementary. After serving five years in this capacity, she was promoted to Principal at Union Elementary in July 2011.
Being a life-long learner herself, Mrs. Deaton values the role of education. She has high expectations for the staff, students, and parents in order to help Union Elementary reach its full potential. Union Elementary will provide a positive environment where every student has opportunities to grow academically, socially, and emotionally. The school’s mission is to help all students become responsible citizens, critical thinkers, and globally competitive life-long learners.

Mrs. Herlihy is delighted to be a member of the Union Elementary family! She graduated from Clemson University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education and received her Master’s Degree from the University of Houston. After graduating from Clemson University, she moved to Sugar Land, Texas and worked as an elementary school resource teacher. After spending many years living in Texas, Egypt, the Netherlands, and Norway, she moved back to North Carolina. She was hired by Union County in 2008, and taught at Fairview Elementary for four years as both a fifth and first grade teacher. In 2012 she became the assistant principal of Union Elementary.
Mrs. Herlihy deeply values education for all students. She enjoys interacting with and supporting the students that make up our Union family.
