Ms. Cathy Haney- Assistant Principal

Cathy Haney grew up in Fairmont, West Virginia where she graduated from Fairmont State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.  She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1997 and began her teaching career.

Ms. Haney has spent most of her career as a UCPS teacher, working at Prospect, Hemby Bridge, and Indian Trail Elementary; however, she spent four years in Wake County as a teacher as well.  Her experience is diverse, having taught pre-kindergarten through 6th grade during her career.

While working as a teacher, she also earned a reading specialist certificate as well as a Master of School Administration Degree from the University of Kansas.

Ms. Haney lives in Union County with her family and enjoys spending time gardening, visiting the beach, relaxing with a book by the pool, and working around her home.  She is proud to say that her three children are UCPS students.

“I honestly wasn’t sure I ever wanted to be a school administrator.  I was afraid that I would miss out on the best part of the job:  Connecting with children.  It has been a wonderful surprise to see that I am able to make more connections and impact more lives in this role.  It is beyond important to me that children see their worth.  We must impart to them so many things beyond academic knowledge.  As educators, we must show them that they are cared for, valued, and respected.”

Ms. Haney added that her main goal as assistant principal is to be the positive influence, proving that being a lifelong learner make life more interesting.

“It is an honor to be able to come to work each day.  I never know what adventures await as I face the hundreds of little leaders that attend Rocky River.  I don’t know that I will ever get over the awe I feel each day surrounded by such unlimited potential.”
