Ms. Cathy Haney- Assistant Principal

Cathy Haney grew up in Fairmont, West Virginia where she graduated from Fairmont State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.  She moved to Charlotte, North Carolina in 1997 and began her teaching career.

Ms. Haney has spent most of her career as a UCPS teacher, working at Prospect, Hemby Bridge, and Indian Trail Elementary; however, she spent four years in Wake County as a teacher as well.  Her experience is diverse, having taught pre-kindergarten through 6th grade during her career.

While working as a teacher, she also earned a reading specialist certificate as well as a Master of School Administration Degree from the University of Kansas.

Ms. Haney lives in Union County with her husband, Mike, and their three children.  Katlin is a student at Wingate University.  Grant is a student at Central Academy of the Arts, and Anna is a student at Sun Valley High School.  When she is not attending her children’s sports activities, she enjoys time outdoors, watching football, traveling, and spending time with her pets.

“I have always loved connecting with children and helping them see their worth.  They all have gifts, and it is the job of every member of the school’s staff to help them discover what those gifts are.  I feel like the children at Rocky River are an extension of my family.  I care for each one the way I would want my own children cared for at school.”

Ms. Haney added that her main goal as assistant principal is to be the positive influence, modeling what it truly means to be a life-long learner.

“It is an honor to be able to come to work each day.  I never know what adventures await as I face the hundreds of little leaders that attend Rocky River.  I don’t know that I will ever get over the awe I feel each day surrounded by such unlimited potential.”
