  • Robotics Club (2019-2020)

    Offered by the 4-H Youth Development Program of the NC Cooperative Extension

    • 2 Club Series: K-2 Robotics and 3-5 Robotics
    • Both series are offered two times this year (Fall and Spring).
    • Each series can host 20 students.  (10 kits with 2 students per kit) 
    • Free - No cost

    Spring Series

    • Times: 2:15-3:15
    • Location: New Salem Cafeteria
    • 3rd-5th - 2/24, 3/2, 3/9, 3/16, 3/23, and 3/30 (presentation day)  Link:

    How do I register my scholar?  

    Registration will be first come first serve.  

    A waiting list of 10 students will be collected in case we have a few "no shows".  

    Registration will open Thursday, February 6th at 9:00 AM and close Monday, February 10th at 7:00 AM.  Permission slips for the first 20 student registered will be send home Monday, February 10th.  Priority registration will be given to students who did not particiapte in the Fall session of Robotics.  However, if there are spots open and your child wants to take the club again I encourage you to register.  Registration will be via Google Form that will go live RIGHT HERE ON THIS PAGE.

    Purpose: Our educational school clubs will allow our NSES scholars to  thrive and explore different interests with like-minded children, teachers, and community members to demonstrate the value of academic, personal, and social success in a changing world.

    Please complete the form (attached below) and return to your classroom teacher on or before January 28th. First students to turn in the forms will be given the club slot. You will be contacted to confirm your child’s membership.

    When: February 3, 2020 - April 3, 2020 (Clubs run for 9 weeks with the exception of Drama Club.)(Meet in auditorium to transition to club areas.)

    Time: 2:00 - 3:30 pm (Pick-up will be in car rider line at the back of NSES.) 

    Legos Club

    Elementary students in K-1-2 get the opportunity to build Lego creations in a group environment, learning building skills and working together in groups for a common goal.

    Arts and Crafts Club

    Elementary students in grades 3-4-5 will be given the chance to explore different media and techniques to create art and craft items.

    • Limit 10
    • Materials: $20 per member
    • Thursday

    Color Guard

    A blend of rhythm, dance, and marching performed to a choreographed plan with military origins, for which flags are used.  The goal of the school Color Guard team is to assist in any school ceremonies by presenting the colors. Team members must have high standards in appearance, education, and conduct. Participating is very rewarding.

    • Thursday

    Sports Club

    Elementary students will learn some game strategies and develop their skills in a variety of different sports, games, and activities!  Being a member in the sports club can help students learn to control their emotions and channel feelings in a positive way. It can also help students develop patience and understanding of practice leads to improvement in skills.

    Drama Club

    Elementary students learn the basics of stagecraft, self discipline and the importance of hard work, creative play and dance, speaking to an audience, singing in front of others, listening and observation skills, and self confidence. Members will have to audition for singing parts and major roles. (Longer than 9wks)
