• Dear Parents,

On behalf of the entire Wildcat family, we would like to welcome you and your child to Weddington Elementary School.  As rising kindergarten families, we know that you’re anxious to know what school will look like in the fall. While we cannot yet say exactly what to expect, there are some assurances we as kindergarten teachers can offer your family. First, we are as anxious to get back into the classroom and teach your children as you are for them to begin school!  Second, we will make the transition to kindergarten as easy as possible for you and your child no matter what changes may be in order. And finally, we will navigate these changes together, as a team whose goal is to care for your child.

One of our first steps in preparing for the upcoming year is to begin thinking of placing students with teachers. Traditionally, we would hold summer testing to help determine placement of students. However, in an effort to uphold county policy and to make this as efficient as possible, we are asking that parents complete a simple survey to help us learn a little more about your child.  Your responses will aid us tremendously in gaining enough information to begin the placement process. Please take a few moments to complete the Google Survey attached to this email. We respectfully request that you complete the survey no later than July 31st so that we can begin the placement process.    https://forms.gle/RS3bF6DARF6Z6JVx6

As parents, we feel it’s important that you know our team works very closely together and share a common understanding of students’ needs.  Our traditional kindergarten teachers, Mrs. Rogers, Ms. Isgan, and Mrs. Privette are all highly qualified teachers with extensive experience working with young children in kindergarten and first grade. As parents ourselves, we understand the desire to provide a structured environment while also balancing our students’ needs for a loving and comfortable classroom. Our Dual Language teachers, Senor Garcia and Senorita Miranda have spent the last two years working to develop their relationships with families and to grow our Dual Language Program.

While we will use this confidential survey information to place students, please be aware that we have only three traditional classrooms and two dual language classrooms into which we can divide students.  Therefore, we will take your input on the survey into as much consideration as possible. However, it may not be feasible to honor all requests, so we ask that you not make specific teacher requests and/or requests for classmates.  Once the governor has determined which academic plan we will follow and the county has set their guidelines, we will share information concerning staggered entry days, Kindergarten Parent Orientation, and Open House. We ask that you be patient and understanding as we navigate these uncharted waters.

    Very Kindly,

    Then Kindergarten Team
