Mr. Murray's Weekly Update May 29th

Good evening Cavalier families, this is Mr. Murray with your weekly update from Cuthbertson Middle.
This past week, UCPS held their annual teacher of the year celebration. CMS was fortunate to have two teachers being recognized. The first was Mrs. Sarah Haydn, who was a Top 10 UCPS Teacher of the Year finalist and Ms. Virginia Griffith, who won the Beginning Teacher of the Year Award! Congratulations to both ladies!
Parents, we will mail report cards home this year for 6th and 7th grade students. 8th grade students will receive report cards at the promotion celebration. Report cards will be mailed home on Monday June 6th.
Any student who did not pass their EOG will retake the exam during the week of June 6th. Families will be notified this week if their students will need to re-take their exams.
Students will receive yearbooks on Thursday June 2nd.
8th grade students will have promotion practice during the morning of June 2nd and in the afternoon will have the opportunity to sign each other's yearbooks.
We will not collect student laptops, all students will keep their devices over the summer. We plan to distribute rising 6th grade laptops before school starts in August.

AIG Summer testing information
Creative Scholars Program Summer Camp for Students in Grades 8-10 UGA is offering a summer camp opportunity for 8th-10th grade, hosted on campus in Athens, GA. Creative Scholars can expect a course curriculum in specialty topics such as podcasting, entrepreneurship in fashion design, virtual and augmented reality, and video game design. Their instructors are trained to use research-driven, creative strategies in the classroom while teaching courses that are innovative, interdisciplinary, and project-based. Students will take one course during the two-week program. Applications are due by June 17th. Interested students can apply here. Please reach out to danielle.sullivan@ucps.k12.nc.us or allyson.camp@ucps.k12.nc.us with any questions.
I would like to thank our students, parents and teachers for their amazing effort this year. I hope everyone has a restful and relaxing summer break. We look forward to seeing everyone back at school in August!

Good evening Cavalier families, this is Mr. Murray with your weekly update from Cuthbertson Middle.
This past Friday we had our first EOG and many families decided to sign their students out early from school. Please be patient with this process as we have limited staff to check parent identification when signing students out.
Our next EOG is on Tuesday May 24. As a reminder, students will not be released early from their test until all students have completed the test. School is in session until 4:05.
Cell phones and Apple watches must be turned off during testing and left in student book bags.
Students will need to bring their computer chargers and computers to school and leave them overnight on 5/23.
Students in Math 1, 7th grade and 8th Science will also leave their computers and chargers overnight on May 25th.
We still need extra proctors. If you are interested in proctoring, please contact the front office.
Testing dates:
May 20th – ELA 6-8
May 23rd- Foreign Language- 8th grade year long
May 24th- Math 6-8 and Math 1- 8th grade and Math 2- 8th grade year long
May 26th- Math 1 7th grade and 8th grade Science

Good evening Cavalier families, this is Mr. Murray with your weekly update from Cuthbertson Middle.
This past Thursday was our last day of after-school enrichment. All students should be going home their regular way for the remainder of the year on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
This Friday we have our first EOG. As a reminder, students will not be released early from their test until all students have completed the EOG. Friday's test should conclude by 1:30. Students will not be released before then. The school day ends at 4:05.

This upcoming week the Student Council has organized a Spirit Week. We are encouraging all students and staff to participate.
Monday is Hawaiian Day-Dress in your best Hawaiian attire.
Tuesday is Twin Day-Dress up like a twin with a friend or staff member.
Wednesday is Pajama Day-Dress in your comfiest pajamas for the day.
Thursday is Squad Day-Dress up with your squad in matching outfits or as a “famous” squad.
Friday is Color Day-Wear your grade’s designated color!

Parents, please do not drop off or attempt to pick up your student on the service road in front of the school. We open our doors at 8:15 each day for a 9:05 start, please plan accordingly. As a reminder, parents, please send a note in the morning with your student when picking them up early from school. The last early dismissal for students is 3:20. Our front office will provide an early dismissal pass so your student will be waiting for you when you arrive. This will help cut down on class interruptions. Please remember to bring a photo ID, we cannot release a student without an ID.
When dropping off forgotten lunches, please remember that UCPS offers free lunch to all students. Please do not drop off fast food lunches as they are not permitted at school.

If you are interested in becoming a substitute, please see the link attached below for more information. We prefer full-day subs but can accommodate half-day substitutes as well. Rising 7th and 8th-grade students, please remember to turn in your elective selection cards by Wednesday, May 4th. Cards should be turned into your homeroom teacher. Students are not guaranteed their top choices. They will receive (2) of their selections. If cards are returned late or not returned at all students will be given what is left.

We would like to thank our PTSO Board and all of the volunteers who made our first Spring Fest possible. Students and staff enjoyed all of the festivities, especially the dunk tank!
Rising 7th and 8th grade students will be bringing home their elective selection cards on Tuesday, April 26th. They are due back by Wednesday, May 4th.
Students are not guaranteed their top choices. They will receive (2) of their selections. If cards are returned late or not returned at all, students will be given what is left. Please make sure cards are returned to your students' homeroom teacher by Wednesday, May 4th.

Good evening Cavalier families, this is Mr. Murray with your weekly update from Cuthbertson Middle.
I am so excited and incredibly proud to tell you that both Cuthbertson Odyssey of the Mind teams have qualified for Worlds! The performance problem took 2nd place in States and the vehicle problem took 3rd. Great job to all the students and coaches involved.
Parents, please remind your students that Term 5 ends on Thursday April 14. All work should be completed and turned in by then.

We wanted to make everyone aware that cars are prohibited from making u-turns at the entrance of Champions Forest. Please follow all safety guidelines when driving your student to school.
The CMS Pride Club is collecting travel-size toiletries to benefit the homeless population in Charlotte. They are partnering with Time Out Youth in Charlotte.
The donations will be collected through Tuesday, April 26th. Their goal is to put together 80 Care Kits, which will be gallon ziplock bags with the donated toiletry items.
Boxes will be in front of Ms. Willis' room on 6th, Ms. Sinople's room on 7th, Ms. Sarantopoulos' room on 8th, and Ms. Bost's room in the media center.

Over the past two weeks, we have had multiple cars go over the curb during our afternoon car rider line. Parents, please pull all the way and your student will find your car. For the safety of our students and teachers on duty, please look straight ahead.
On Thursday, April 14th, in partnership with the PTSO, we are going to have our first Spring Fest for students and staff during the day. These past few years have been very hard for students and staff and we wanted to provide an opportunity for everyone to have some fun together at school. Students and staff will be able to participate in a variety of activities, each student will be provided tickets for food…..and we will also have a DJ, photo spots and even a dunk tank!
