Cuthbertson High School NC Report Card

  • Dear CHS Community:
We provide regular updates to you about your student’s academic progress by sending home a Report Card for each student. Once a year, we also provide you with updates on our school’s achievements through the North Carolina School Report Card.

This Report Card includes important information about school and student performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. There also is information about how our school measured against state and federal targets and the number of suspensions and expulsions in our school. Report data is available for our school district and for the state’s education system as a whole.
With this letter, I have enclosed a summary of our Report Card called the Report Card Snapshot. You will notice that our school “Exceeded Growth” in all academic areas during the 2016-2017 school year.  In fact, our growth increase was 10.92%, a record-breaking percentage for our school and the highest growth in the county.  In addition to exceeding growth, our school closed the achievement gap between all subgroups of students tested. We exceeded 95% in graduation cohort rate and math course rigor.  We are proud of the A+ we received for overall academic performance.

The numbers, however, only tell part of the story. When our school opened during the 2009-2010 school year, we were proud of becoming the first high school in Union County history to earn the state's highest academic designation, "NC Honor School of Excellence," and have repeated this achievement every year of operation. We also earned the designation as an UCPS International School for the fifth consecutive year. Academically, our students have exceeded growth on standardized assessments, both at the state and national level.  Our athletic teams have enjoyed much success earning several conference and regional championships and two state championships. Our band and drama programs each established themselves as winners earning trophies and recognition in various competitions.
Our school is home to the 2010 Union County Teacher of the Year, Mr. Andrew Rosene, the 2011 Union County Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Maya Schultz, and the 2012-2013 Union County EC Teacher of Excellence winner, Mrs. Sarah Keziah.  Before serving as the school’s principal, Dr. Kim W. Schroeder was awarded “2011-2012 Union County Assistant Principal of the Year.”  Cuthbertson High School founding principal, Mr. Rob Jackson, was the 2011 Wells Fargo North Carolina Principal of the Year.  Our school's success is a direct result of the hard work of our teachers and students. We are proud of them and know that you are as well.
State and local education leaders are committed to providing parents with more information about schools. Well-informed parents who participate in their children’s education and school enhance the learning environment for students and educators alike. At Cuthbertson High School your involvement is very important to the success of our school! I encourage you to review our Report Card carefully and contact me directly to discuss any questions or concerns you may have. I also welcome your feedback regarding other interests you have in our school.
Thank you for allowing me to share this Report Card with you, and thank you for supporting our efforts to provide your child with a high-quality education.
    Dr. Kim W. Schroeder, Principal
    Cuthbertson High School
