Cuthbertson Middle School NC Report Card

  • September 13, 2017

    Dear Parents,

The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction just released the 2016-17 NC School Report Cards. As in previous years, the report provides a snapshot of each school’s performance including; student performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, instructional resources and teacher quality. You will also see the 3rd year of the School Performance Grade. The North Carolina General Assembly’s (GA) Session Law 2012-142 included specifications for reporting School Performance Grades (A, B, C, D, and F) for each public school and public charter school.  This grade is calculated using the performance composite from our school, how many students passed the test, and the growth index for our school.  The performance composite will be worth 80% of our school's overall grade and the growth index is worth 20%.

It is important to remember that the NC School Report Card is a snapshot of our school. Numbers do not tell the entire story of our school’s progress and achievements.  Cuthbertson Middle School has been recognized as having some of the highest growth rates and percent on grade level of all middle schools not only in our district but also in the state of North Carolina. This past year, Cuthbertson Middle “Exceed Growth”  in all academic areas and ranked second highest out of all UCPS Middle Schools in student growth. Cuthbertson Middle once again received an A for overall student performance. Cuthbertson Middle School has also been recognized for its extracurricular programs such as our band and athletic teams as well as the positive impact helping our local community through a variety of ways.

We are sharing this information with you because we want to provide you with our school’s plan for continued improvement with academic/student achievement.  This report card is a reflection of the 2016-17 school year. This year Cuthbertson Middle School has continued its commitment to helping every child grow through our academic enrichment and enrichment time held during team and activity time each week.  Our grade level teams and departments continue to develop common assessments and make data-driven decisions to optimize individual, content, grade level and school-wide improvement in our academic achievement.

Comparing school grades within UCPS should be done with caution. Each school is different in size, program offerings, and student population.  We encourage our parents, students, and other stakeholders to communicate with teachers, administrators, and other support personnel to discuss the progress our school continues to make and our plan for your child’s individual success.

    Respectfully,

    Michael Murray

    Principal

    Cuthbertson Middle School
