Porter Ridge Elementary School NC Report Card
Dear Porter Ridge Parents, Guardians, and Friends,
Thank you for taking the time to visit our site to learn more about Porter Ridge Elementary School (PRES). The staff work as a cohesive team along with our families to provide the optimal environment for children to learn and succeed. Teachers at Porter Ridge are involved in on-going professional development so they are well prepared to provide the instruction that will meet the needs of each child. We provide regular updates to you about your student’s academic progress by sending home a Report Card each six weeks. Once a year you're provided with updates on our school’s achievements through the North Carolina School Report Card.
This Report Card includes important information about school and student performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. Report data is available for our school district and for the state’s education system as a whole.
I have enclosed with this letter a summary of our Report Card called the Report Card Snapshot. Our school’s full Report Card can be found on the NC School Report Cards’ website. Our school district’s report also is available on the Report Card website. School Report Cards are provided for regular public schools, charter schools and alternative schools.
All Porter Ridge Pirates are proud of our accomplishments and this report card only tells part of our story. The Porter Ridge staff and students are “Anchored for Excellence” in everything we do. We have committed to making sure our instruction fits each student’s unique learning needs. Teachers are focused on individualized instruction using a Balanced Literacy Approach. Through a Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS), teachers work to identify and support students who may be struggling and then implement interventions and individualized goals to move them toward success. While the teachers meet with children individually and with guided reading groups they discuss and conference to determine strengths and areas to refocus for additional lessons. Children also are reminded of particular behaviors that support reading. Teachers incorporate both Reading, Writing, and Math Workshop Models of instruction. Staff members continue to build a collaborative environment based on the Professional Learning Community Model. Vertical Planning is a key component as teachers stay informed of standards and objectives taught in grades above and below to better provide a seamless transition from grade to grade. We have strengthened our technology opportunities for students by adding individual student netbooks in grades 3-5 as well as computers and ipads in the K-2 classrooms. We are committed to seeing that our students become life-long learners in the 21st Century and to be immersed with global education. Porter Ridge Elementary School has been identified as a UCPS International School due to our commitment to global education.
Our students can also take advantage of extra-curricular activities such as Porter Notes, Student Government, Garden Club, Art Club, Girls on the Run, Xcel2 Fitness, Grade Level Music Programs, "Go 4 It" Athletics Flag Footbal and PTO events. We always love seeing parents and students at area restaurants each month during Family Nights hosted by our PTO.
Through Positive Behavior Instruction and a strong emphasis on character education, students learn the importance of caring for others and modeling good character traits. Specific instruction and service projects throughout the year help our students understand how to be problem solvers, collaborate with others, and do their part to make the world a better place. We have been recognized by the state as a Green Ribbon School for promoting positive behavior supports and character building education within every classroom.
At Porter Ridge Elementary your involvement is very important to the success of our school! I encourage you to review our Report Card carefully, then feel free to contact me directly to discuss any questions or concerns you may have regarding the Report Card. I also welcome your feedback regarding other interests you have in our school.
Thank you for allowing me to share this Report Card with you and thank you for supporting our efforts to provide your child with a high-quality education.
