Sardis Elementary School NC Report Card

  • Dear Sardis Elementary School Families:

Thank you for taking the time to review information about Sardis Elementary School (SDES). At Sardis, we strongly believe that each child can and will fulfill his or her potential. Therefore, we are committed to creating a safe, academically challenging, and positive learning environment that will prepare students for a successful future in a global society.

At our school, we provide regular updates to you about your child’s academic progress by sending home interim progress reports and/or report cards. Once a year, the state provides families with updates on each school’s achievements through the North Carolina School Report Card. This Report Card includes information about school and student performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. Additionally, there is information about how our school measured against Federal and State Proficiency, CCR (Career and College Readiness) and the disciplinary data for our school. Report data is available for our school district and for the state’s education system as a whole.

We are very proud to report that our school has increased its proficiency from 73 to 75 maintaining our “B” status and we were recognized as having “exceeded growth”  with a growth index of 6.17 under the North Carolina Accountability Program. However, these numbers only tell part of the story. At Sardis, we are proud of the warm, caring environment that our school provides. We are committed to investigating and implementing quality instructional practices that reflect high levels of student achievement and accountability. The staff is also committed to continuous learning and improvement through targeted professional development.

Sardis’ instructional program includes a comprehensive balanced literacy program, which supports our students in all areas of literacy.  In addition, we currently use research-based resources, as well as other research-based strategies to provide students with the understandings that support mathematical success.  We are pleased to have the on-site support of an Instructional Coach, Interventionists, Instructional Assistants and tutors, all of whom support our teachers in using high quality instructional strategies to ensure students’ success.

At Sardis, your involvement is very important to the success of our school! We encourage parents and community members to be involved and support our students as they continue to grow and learn. Additionally, we need our parents to ensure that students arrive to school on time, prepared and ready to learn. Our children can achieve or exceed grade-level mastery with the full support and encouragement from a positive home and school relationship.

Our school’s full Report Card can be found on the NC School Report Cards’ website at http://ncreportcards.org. Our school district’s report also is available on the Report Card website. School Report Cards are provided for regular public schools, charter schools and alternative schools that were open during the 2016-2017 school year. I encourage you to review our Report Card carefully; then, feel free to call the school with any questions or concerns you may have. I welcome your feedback and the opportunity to work with you to continue to make Sardis Elementary a high performing Title 1 School.

Thank you for supporting our efforts to provide your child with a high-quality education.

    Sincerely,

    Theresa A. Benson
