Dear South Providence School Community,
As South Providence School continues to support all UCPS schools, we are elated to know that the UCPS graduation cohort rate is up. It gives me great satisfaction to report on the performance of South Providence School for the year 2016-2017.
The Alternative Schools Accountability Model (ASAM) was developed to provide accountability information on eligible schools in lieu of a School Performance Grade. South Providence School participates in the Alternative Schools Progress Model (ASPM). The UCPS Board of Education determined that South Providence School will utilize Option C: Schools may participate in the Alternative Schools Progress Model (ASPM). The ASPM assigns a designation to the school based on the school’s improvement in the current year compared to the school’s previous year’s results. The three measured components which make up the ASPM are: Student Persistence, School Achievement, and Growth. These components are weighted and combined to generate the current year total score.
The ASPM assigns schools a designation of Progressing, Maintaining, or Declining based on the amount of change a school has shown since the previous year. The designations are designed to provide information to schools on their progress based on the specific programs and the unique make-up of their schools. It is not designed to make comparisons between schools to determine if one school performs better than another. Rather, the information provides the opportunity for schools to work with one another after identifying similarities in programing and success on the components in the model.
Based upon NCDPI/Accountability Services Division/Analysis and Reporting 09/01/2015 designations are assigned by comparing the current year total score with the previous year total score for each school. Designations are made as follows: 1) Progressing—indicates a change of at least +3 points above the previous year, 2) Maintaining—indicates a change between ‐2. 9 and +2.9 points compared to the previous year, and 3) Declining—indicates a change of at least ‐3 points below the previous year. The 2014–2015 school year was the baseline year for the ASAM; therefore, all schools using the ASPM were assigned the Maintaining designation based on their 2014–15 data.
South Providence School’s designation for the 2016-17 school year indicates that we are “Progressing” school progress. Taken together, these results are much more powerful than a designation, this status demonstrates that our kids are receiving a high-quality education. We have teachers and administrators who are some of the best in the state and who care deeply about their students.
Thank you for your interest in South Providence School. Please join us as we work together to create a bright and successful future for all of our students.
