Waxhaw Elementary School NC Report Card
Dear Parents and Friends,
Thank you for taking time to visit this site to learn about our school! At Waxhaw Elementary, we believe that every child can learn. While test scores are just one way that measures accountability there are many other factors that characterize a quality school. Other indicators of school quality are important to parents and community members. This information is located in one place, on the North Carolina School Report Card. This report card includes information about school and student performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. Report card data will be available for each school, for each school district, and for the state's education system as a whole. Our school’s full Report Card can be found on the NC School Report Cards’ website at NC School Report Card.
Our ultimate goal at Waxhaw Elementary School is to become a school where all students perform at or above grade level and where all students meet or exceed grade level growth expectations. In order to accomplish this, we will focus on the individual needs of our students, promote and maintain a climate of high expectations, provide high quality instruction in all classrooms, and ensure a safe, orderly, and caring environment.
The numbers on the NC School Report Card only tell part of the story. Teachers collaborate in weekly grade level Professional Learning Communities and discuss growth, assessments and teaching strategies to best meet the needs of students. We are invested in PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) which has improved student behavior and school pride. We are also proud of our intervention systems that allow us to maximize student achievement through a multi-leveled system that integrates assessments and student interventions. In addition, we have continued our focus on maximizing the availability of technology for students and teachers. All classrooms have interactive boards and every 3-5 grade student has access to a Chromebook, while our lower grades have the use of netbooks and Ipads for their classroom instruction. By providing these resources we are better able to provide learning opportunities that support 21st century demands in an ever changing world.
Parent and community involvement is vital for our school’s success. We are appreciative of our very active and involved parent groups and community support as well. We encourage parents and community members to be involved and support our students as they develop into young adults. We need our parents to ensure that students arrive to school ready to learn and with their homework completed. Our children can achieve grade-level mastery if not higher but they need the support, encouragement, and push from all of us to give their very best each day. There are several ways to find out what’s happening at Waxhaw Elementary. We have a PTO newsletter and a Principal’s newsletter that is sent home and posted to the website. Current news is also updated on the website, shared through ConnectEds, our Twiter, Instagram account and on our Facebook page.
Thank you for allowing me to share this Report Card with you, and thank you for supporting our efforts to provide your child with a high-quality education. We have worked hard together to create a community of learners who value school, work, collaboration, and service. Our children have grown as learners and as citizens. I am very proud of their hard work. Please contact the school if you have any questions and thank you for your continued support.
