Western Union Elementary School NC Report Card
Dear Western Union Elementary Families and Friends,
Thank you for taking time to visit this site to learn about our school! At Western Union Elementary, we believe that every child can learn. Test scores are only one way to measure accountability. We believe there are many other factors that characterize a quality school.
Once a year, the state provides families with updates on each school’s achievements through the North Carolina School Report Card. This Report Card includes information about school and student performance, class sizes, attendance, school safety, instructional resources, and teacher quality. You will notice that our school “Exceeded Growth” in all academic areas during the 2017-2018 school year. Western Union continues to improve and scored a B for the third year in a row on the school report card. Our school’s full Report Card can be found on the NC School Report Cards Website at http://www.ncreportcards.org. Report card data is also available for our school district and for the state’s education system as a whole.
These numbers only tell part of the story and do not tell how hard our students and staff work. Western Union Elementary has a dedicated staff where we continue to work to instill in each student to “Give Your Best and Nothing Less.”
At our school we are constantly looking for ways to improve in order to see success in each student. We are providing continuous training for our staff on best practices and differentiation strategies to help develop their teaching skills because we know that growing educators helps our students grow academically as well. We are continuing to integrate our teaching standards with global content to provide students an awareness of the world around them. We have the opportunity to implement different forms of technology and programs in the classrooms. Each 2nd - 5th grade classroom has a 1:1 laptop setting through the support of our school district. Each of our K-2nd grade classrooms have access to a station of laptops or ipads.
Parent and community support are vital to our success! We will continue to offer many opportunities for parents to engage and interact with our staff during parent nights and terrific kids assemblies. At Western Union Elementary we appreciate all the support that we receive on a daily basis from our parents and volunteers. As the principal, I appreciate and welcome your feedback regarding other interests you have in our school.
Thank you for allowing me to share this Report Card with you and thank you for supporting our efforts to provide students with a high-quality education. I am confident we can make our school an even better place for our students to learn and grow.
