Dr. Susan Rodgers - Principal

Dr. Susan Rodgers is an excited member of the Shiloh Valley community and is embarking on her 23rd year as an educator.  She has resided in Union County for 16 years with her family. Her daughter graduated from Western Carolina University in May, 2019 where she studied music, and her son is a sophomore at Montreat College.

After moving to North Carolina from Ohio to attend college at UNC-Charlotte, she received a BA in K-6 Education.  Dr. Rodgers began her teaching career in a 6th grade classroom in Charlotte. She moved on to teach 5th grade and gifted students for four years.

After staying home with her children, she returned to teaching in Union County.  She was a 4th/5th grade classroom teacher for several years at Shiloh Elementary and then moved into the position of Curriculum Specialist.  She coordinated K-5 curriculum in reading and math at Shiloh Elementary while supporting teachers for continuous improvement.

In 2011, Dr. Rodgers was the Curriculum Coordinator for Wingate Elementary in 3-5 Literacy while also being a contributing member of the UCPS Core Curriculum Team.  She focused on differentiating curriculum while growing teachers by implementing professional development to meet the needs of and to impact students.

Dr. Rodgers sought an administration degree at Wingate University and completed her Masters of Educational Leadership in May 2012.  She became an Assistant Principal at Parkwood Middle School in 2013 where she worked for three years. There she learned the value of communication, collaboration and consistency.

In August of 2016, Dr. Rodgers became the principal at Sun Valley Elementary school where she learned the importance of building relationships with students, parents, and teachers.  She believes that leadership opportunities are for all students and a legacy of global leadership was established. In December of 2018, she earned her doctorate degree in Educational Leadership at Wingate University.

Dr. Rodgers has a deep investment and commitment to the students she serves.  Being the founding principal of Shiloh Valley Elementary School during the 2019-2020 school year is an honor and a privilege. Shiloh Valley Elementary is initiating a new school model with grades 3-5 by developing all students as leaders through specialized academic programming.  Partnering with Shiloh Valley Primary School (grades K-2), Shiloh Valley Elementary School (grades 3-5) will impact our entire community by growing students to be future ready for middle school, high school and beyond; in college, in a career and in life!
