  • UCPS Latino Outreach Recognition

    Mr. Gustavo Arevalo, Latino Outreach Coordinator was recognized by the Southpark Lions Club on Friday, July 12 at their Annual Awards & Installation Banquet. Mr. Jim Sasser, District Governor, presented Mr. Arevalo with a plaque in recognition for his role in the implementation of programs that benefit UCPS students and their families.

  • 2018 Hispanic Summit

    Nineteen UCPS students from Monroe High School, Monroe Middle, Porter Ridge Middle School, Forest Hills High School and Piedmont High School participated in the 2018 Hispanic Educational Summit. The Summit took place on Friday, March 23rd at the North Carolina State University McKimmon Conference Center in Raleigh, NC.

    Staff at East Elementary participated in the third staff development session of ExC-ELL (Expediting Comprehension for English Language Learners). They experienced and explored hands-on instructional strategies designed to boost writing skills in the content areas.

  • 2017 Hispanic Educational Summit

    UCPS Latino students attended the 2017 Hispanic Educational Summit in Raleigh, NC on Friday, March, 31st at The McKimmon Conference Center at the North Carolina State University. The Summit is organized by the North Carolina Society of Hispanic Professionals. The Summit’s main objective is to promote the value of education amongst Latino youth. This amazing educational experience exposes students to a wide range of diverse options they have as they work to pursue an education after high school.

  • Rock Rest ESL

    Mr. Kevin Clarke, ESL teacher, is in charge of the recycling program at Rock Rest. On Tuesdays and Thursdays his 5th grade students help collect paper, cardboard, cans and bottles from each classroom.
