English Teacher Uses Technology to Enhance Remote Teaching
CATA English Teacher Sarah Henry is testing her technology skills by attempting to re-create the classroom experience of reading and hearing Shakespeare's tragedy Macbeth by overlaying the text with an audio-recording and with her commentary and notes using two computers.
She misses hearing students read (and usually have a great time doing so) in the classroom and the interaction that the classroom environment always provides. After the final act, one student responded to Lady Macbeth's sleepwalking scene by email with "Who would have thought that!? I sure didn't see it coming."
Mrs. Henry hopes this method might provide some clarity for students who struggle with understanding Shakespeare and give them insight into the ironic nuances of the work. Teaching over a distance has been a challenge but an important endeavor as we all begin to re-think the various methods of teaching and learning.
