Walter Bickett Elementary recently hosted Motheread, a family friendly program focused on providing parents with strategies and resources for supporting their children’s early literacy development. Sponsored by the Alliance for Children in partnership with the Literacy Council, Motheread participants and their children engaged in a variety of activities throughout the course of the 7-week program. Rich and diverse literature, songs and movement, and creative arts and crafts were incorporated into each Motheread session. Over a dozen families took advantage of this opportunity to learn and connect with others!

It is never too early to support your child’s literacy development. Create a language rich environment by surrounding your child with talking, singing, and reading daily. An environment that is rich in language is important to your child’s early learning and may have strong effects on early language and vocabulary.
