Two members of the the CHS Student Council along with adviser Jennifer Fogle attended the NCASC (North Carolina Association of Student Councils) western district fall conference held at Piedmont High School on October 12, 2019.
CHS Senior and Student Body President President Maiya Hayes (pictured right) and Sophomore Class President Asa Humphries attended the all-day leadership event.
The mission of the NCASC is to enhance student leadership development and to provide experiences for students leaders to improve school culture and climate. Participants chose breakout sessions to attend covering various student council topics such as how to promote school spirit and how to prepare for college as well as heard from guest speakers.
One guest speaker was Senator Jeff Jackson. He gave a speech about life plans and how they can change. He explained that what you plan for yourself now may turn out much differently in reality - and how important it is to grasp the opportunities to make a difference when those opportunities arise. He used his own story as an example of that. He commended all of the students for being there and for having the desire to make a difference already.
The conference was an excellent way for the students to meet other representatives from other schools, share ideas, hear guest speakers, and gain leadership knowledge they could bring back to their schools.
