Welcome Back To School Update From Mr. Murray
Good evening Cavalier families, this is Mr. Murray with another update from Cuthbertson Middle.
The 2020-21 school year is under-way. I would like to thank all of our teachers for creating such great introductory videos for our families. Also, I want to thank our office staff for doing everything needed to get this year on the right track. Below is my welcome back powerpoint along with two brief videos on understanding our schedule and navigating our webpage.
The first day for students is Monday August 17, our doors will open at 8:35 each day. All students need to be in homerooms by the 9:05 bell.
Families can access their bus information through the Here Comes the Bus App.
Instructions on establishing a Here Comes the Bus account are available on the UCPS Transportation website. I have also attached an informational letter to assist you in this process along with a short video. At this time all students should be able to see their schedules in powerschool. Due to a technical issue bus boarding passes were delayed but we were able to mail schedules and bus information yesterday. Due to this delay some schedules might be incorrect, please refer to power school for the most up to date schedule. We anticipate that all schedules will be finalized by Friday afternoon. Safety is our number one priority as we adjust these schedules, our goal is to ensure we are keeping class sizes to a safe number. Thank you for understanding.
I have attached a Here Comes the Bus Parent letter as well.
Parents and students as we start this unconventional year I would like to share a message with all of you that I recently shared with our staff. Our goal at CMS this year is to “Win the Day” win it today and win it every day with your students. Reconnecting with our students is our top priority as we begin this school year along with assisting our students in establishing effective routines to have a successful remote learning environment. I have attached a short video and two articles that I would like all families to watch and read this week. Hopefully this will assist your student in establishing a quality routine each day.
6th Grade parents our AIG Teachers in 6th Grade are Mrs. Everhart for ELA and Mrs. Gardiner for Math, Compacted Math is AIG and the Advanced Math course is being taught by Ms. Hugaboom.
Parents please review this video with your students regarding proper hygiene to start the year.
Recently the UCPS School Board voted to change the start and end time for middle schools. Our new start time will be 9:05 and students will leave the building at 4:05.
Students will be permitted to enter the building at 8:35 and will head directly to their homeroom.
I have attached a copy of our new bell schedule for you to review.
At this time all teachers have posted their welcome videos to our staff directory.
When students are in school they will follow their assigned schedule during the day. For example, first block will begin at 9:05 and end at 10:25.
We expect all of our Plan B students at home to watch their assigned lesson during this time. The last 20 minutes of every class all teachers will begin a live conference with all students to review any questions or concerns students might have. First blocks live session will begin at 10:05.
Students who have selected Plan D are permitted to participate in these live sessions if they choose. Even though All Plan D students selected the self pace option they are encouraged to participate in these live sessions during their assigned block. If a student cannot attend during their assigned block they may visit another block's live session.
Parents, if your student has Mrs. Hupe for Musical Theater, Performing Arts or Drama, please note that she can be found under Kara Bradley in the staff directory.
Below is the schedule for students assigned days of the week
Friday is a remote learning day for all students.
Due to the pandemic students will not be assigned a locker. All students will be expected to carry their belongings to each class.
Families who might need more experience with Canvas can access this through the UCPS or CMS page under the “I Want To section” This will allow parents to get to the Canvas tutorial pages on the EmpowerED Family Portal.
Here is a video screencast as well that explain student log in to Canvas, NCEdCloud, and Clever
Also check out these new parent resources that have been added to the EmpowerEd Family portal. Lots of useful handouts/videos etc.
