Welcome Back to School Update From Mr. Murray August 16th

Welcome Back To School Welcome Back to School Update

Good evening Cavalier families, this is Mr. Murray with your weekly update from Cuthbertson Middle.

The 2020-21 school year is under-way. I would like to thank all of our teachers for creating such great introductory videos for our families. Also, I want to thank our office staff for doing everything needed to get this year started on the right track.

The first day for students is tomorrow morning and our doors open at 8:35 each day. All students need to be in homerooms by the 9:05 bell. I have attached a short video for students and families below on what students can expect when they arrive school this week.

What students can expect when they arrive at school video

Parents and students we will have teachers waiting to greet you tomorrow morning.  Please stay in your car until a teacher screens you, once this occurs you will be permitted to exit your vehicle and proceed to your homeroom.

Parents and students as we start this unconventional year I would like to share a message with all of you that I recently shared with our staff.  Our goal at CMS this year is to “Win the Day” win it today and win it every day with your students. Our time now with our students is more precious than ever.  Reconnecting with our students is our top priority as we begin this school year along with assisting our students in establishing effective routines to have a successful remote learning environment.   I have attached a short video and two articles that I would like all families to watch and read this week. Hopefully this will assist your student in establishing a quality routine each day.

5 Morning Rituals to Win the Day

We would like to welcome Mr. Scott Broome as our new Interim 7th grade Assistant Principal.

This year we will not be accepting any late parent drop offs during the day.  The only exception to this policy will be forgotten lunches, daily medicine and glasses. Thank you for understanding.

Here Comes the Bus app to access their ridership information. Instructions on establishing a Here Comes the Bus account are available on the UCPS Transportation website.

Parents please review this video with your students regarding proper hygiene to start the year.

Proper Hygiene Video

At this time all teachers have posted their welcome videos to our staff directory.

When students are in school they will follow their assigned schedule during the day.  For example first block will begin at 9:05 and end at 10:25.

We expect that all of our Plan B students at home to watch their assigned lesson during this time.  The last 20 minutes of every class all teachers will begin a live lesson with all students to review any questions or concerns students might have.   First blocks live session will begin at 10:05.

I have attached an updated bell schedule below.

Students who have selected Plan D are permitted to participate in these live sessions if they choose.  Even though All Plan D students selected the self pace option they are encouraged to participate in these live sessions during their assigned block.  If a student cannot attend during their assigned block they may visit another blocks live session.

Join CMS PTSO!!

While we know this is a very different year, the PTSO is still hoping to support our CMS staff and students in any way we can. Whether that is helping provide tools or supplies for our teachers as they balance in school and remote learning for our students, boxed lunches for them as they prepare their classrooms or other goodies throughout the year, or any other supplies the office staff needs - we can still make a difference! We want to help set our faculty and staff up for success so our students can have the best learning experience possible.

Please consider supporting the CMS PTSO by making a donation! Your donation includes your PTSO membership and also helps support the school and our efforts to make this a great year for the staff and students. We will also add your name to our sign-up genius list so you can stay current on any ways to help out this year, even though volunteering will look very different! Donations can be made through the online store!

We also are selling a few new ’20-’21 Spirit Wear items!

Click on the "Online Store" tab for all the details and link to donate and purchase spirit wear!
