Weekly Update from Mr. Murray August 23rd

Good evening Cavalier families, this is Mr. Murray with your weekly update from Cuthbertson Middle for August 23rd.

REMINDERS FOR PARENTS

The 2020-2021 school year is under-way and we had a great first week.  All of our buses were on time and our car rider line in the morning was empty by 9:00 am each day.

When you arrive on the Car rider line, please do not pull out while cars are still in line.  Please wait until all cars pull off before leaving.

Our Dismissal process has gone very smoothly so far, we are encouraging families to plan ahead with inclement weather and please  encourage students to bring an umbrella when possible.

FRIDAY EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS

As we head into week two of the school year we wanted to remind families that students will be assigned work on Fridays.  Students are also expected to report to their teachers office hours for support and participate in review material.

PLAN B STUDENT EXPECTATIONS

During the week when following their schedule,  Plan B students are expected to participate in their teachers conference during the last twenty minutes of class.

 LATE DROP OFFS

This year we will not be accepting any late parent drop offs during the day.  The only exception to this policy will be forgotten lunches, daily medicine and glasses.

If dropping off a lunch, please place it on the cart outside the front doors and ring the bell just to let the office know that you dropped it off. Thank you for understanding.

CANVAS CONFERENCE TIME

Parents, the canvas conference time is for students and students only.  This time is not meant for parents to ask the teacher questions.  Please be patient as we navigate this new world of education.  If you have any questions please email the teacher separately.  We appreciate your partnership and understanding during this time.

DAILY ATTENDANCE CHECK IN BEGINS MONDAY. AUGUST 24TH

Moving forward students will need to complete a daily attendance check in on their homeroom teachers canvas page.  We are asking that all of our Plan B and D students complete this check in by 11:00 am each day on their homeroom teachers canvas page.

TECHNOLOGY TUTORIALS AND HELPFUL INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

If parents go to the QUICK LINKS on the school website they will find a link that says Chromebooks, NCEdCloud, Powerschool, and Canvas.  This link contains tutorials for claiming accounts, signing into powerschool, canvas, signing on as parent observer, videos and tutorials from UCPS Empower Ed and more!  This information has also been posted to Facebook and twitter as well.

OVERDUE LIBRARY BOOKS FROM LAST YEAR

Any student who might have an outstanding library book checked out from last year please return it.  There is a return bin located in front of the Media Center doors.  For those of you on Plan D, there is a bin located in the front of the school under the awning.

WATER BOTTLES

We are encouraging all of our students to bring water bottles to school and not use the water fountain.

SAFETY PRECAUTIONS

As a safety precaution, parents, if any student is tested for Covid for any reason please keep them home until test results are returned.

Here Comes the Bus app to access their ridership information. Instructions on establishing a Here Comes the Bus account are available on the UCPS Transportation website.

CMS PTSO

Join CMS PTSO!!

While we know this is a very different year, the PTSO is still hoping to support our CMS staff and students in any way we can. Whether that is helping provide tools or supplies for our teachers as they balance in school and remote learning for our students, boxed lunches for them as they prepare their classrooms or other goodies throughout the year, or any other supplies the office staff needs - We can still make a difference! We want to help set our faculty and staff up for success so our students can have the best learning experience possible.

Please consider supporting the CMS PTSO by making a donation! Your donation includes your PTSO membership and also helps support the school and our efforts to make this a great year for the staff and students. We will also add your name to our sign-up genius list so you can stay current on any ways to help out this year, even though volunteering will look very different! Donations can be made through the online store!

We also are selling a few new ’20-’21 Spirit Wear items!

Click on the "Online Store" tab for all the details and link to donate and purchase spirit wear!
