Project-based learning takes off at East Union

Science, agriculture, and the community have all come together for a science project that has EUMS students doing some creative and analytical thinking! These students recently participated in an Ag. Tech project-based learning (PBL) unit about genetics and animal breeding. Rachel Owens, livestock agent from North Carolina Cooperative Extension, came and spoke to all 7th graders about the importance of genetics in the animal science industry.

Students took what they learned from the guest speaker and in their science classes and completed an animal breeding project. They were reqquired to choose one livestock animal to breed, complete Punnett Squares about their animal, and then create a sales pitch explaining why their animal is genetically the best.
