Board of Education members sworn in, Dec. 6
Clerk of Superior Court Wendy Maynard swore in new, re-elected and previously appointed Union County Board of Education members on Dec. 6. All board members serve a staggered four-year term. Board members who were sworn in tonight will serve until 2026.
Kathy Heintel (District 6) and Gary Sides (District 3) were re-elected to the board. Rev. John J. Kirkpatrick, IV (District 1) was elected after being appointed in 2021 and Rev. Jimmy H. Bention, Sr. (at-large) was elected after being re-appointed in 2020.
Sandra Greene is the newly elected District 4 board member. Greene is a graduate of Taylor University in Upland, Ind., and holds a bachelor's degree in business administration with a focus on economics. She has worked in the financial industry for 17 years. Greene has two children enrolled in Union County Public Schools.
"I want to be an advocate for our children, and a voice for the parents, teachers and staff, as we are all integral parts of the education system here in Union County. I am honored to represent District 4 and I look forward to serving Union County and working together with our community."
The board also voted on the positions of chair and vice chair. Heintel was elected chair and Rev. Bention was elected vice chair. The chair and vice chair will serve a two-year term.
