2nd through 5th graders entered Platform 9 3/4 to get to the Great Hall where wizards were welcomed and muggles were tolerated on Thursday, March 21st. In the great hall wizards, witches, and muggles learned about the history of the Harry Potter series written by JK Rowling while they enjoyed light snacks. Students were then dismissed by houses to their classes of Potions, Quidditch, digital breakout of the Chamber of Secrets, or Dragon Racing. The most popular class may have been the Potions Room due to the slime factor. In Quiddtich, students made catapults out of popsicle sticks and had to shoot and aim into one of the three rings to score points. Professor McGonagall assisted families in breaking out of the Chamber of Secrets by successfully completing a series of digital puzzles. Lastly, students were challenged to race dragons on zip lines to see whose dragon was the fastest. Families attended each class before the night was over.
Mrs. Shulman heads up this annual Literacy/STEM Night and is grateful for the help of Miss Melton, Mrs. Tarlton, Mrs. Willing, Mr. Parker, and Mrs. Arndt who volunteered their time to make this night a huge success! "It is important to make learning fun and include hands on activities to engage the families when attending literacy and STEM nights" says Mrs. Shulman. This is the second Harry Potter Night that Fairview has hosted and the students said "it was awesome!".
