A Local Computer Scientist Teaches Fifth Graders

In celebration of Computer Science Week, local computer scientist Matt Howell spoke with 74 5th graders. Mr. Howell is a local designer/developer with Microsoft and web technologies, and he visited Fairview on December 13. He explained to students that coding is 'learning to think like a computer', and computer scientists solve problems by using code. He had an interactive presentation with the students-he taught them how to 'bubble sort' data by having them order themselves by their birthdays. He taught about different types of jobs in the computer science field by 'interviewing' students for such positions as engineer, user experience designer, graphic designer and trainer.
