STEM Night 2020 Is A Success!

Students were wowed by chemistry during Fairview's third annual STEM night. This event took place on February 11, 2020 with a chemistry theme. Students watched a $20 bill 'burned' in an introductory video featuring Ms. Melton and Mr. Holmes. Next, students participated in 3 different activities- making a lava lamp, creating play dough with bubble bath, and creating art through a Skittles experiment. As a grand finale, Mr. Wikfors demonstrated the making of elephant toothpaste, and students enjoyed a science slurpee as they left for the evening.

Here's what students had to say about the event: Sadie Oakley, a first grader in Mrs. McGee's class, said, "My favorite part was when we made the play dough because I could play with it." Cole Philemon in Mrs. Tarlton's second grade class said, "My favorite part was the grand finale chemical reaction where he made an explosion. The cool part was he had 2 cold liquids, but they got hot together and foamed up." Lily Risse, also in Mrs. Tarlton's second grade class said, "My favorite part was all of it because it was a challenge. I never wanted it to end!"
