For over three decades, John H. Crowder dedicated his life to supporting the youth of Union County. In honor of his enduring contributions and lasting impact, the Union County Board of Education presented the John H. Crowder Service Award for January to a Forest Hills High School senior. 

As a member of the National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, National Athletic Honor Society, BETA Club and other prestigious organizations, Kaliah Rushing excels academically and shows a commitment to service, leadership and character development.

Her involvement in sports, as a varsity cheerleader and a flag football player, showcases her strong passion for athletics. She uses her knowledge and skills to coach middle school football cheer squads, participate in cheerleading camps and mentor younger cheerleaders.

Kaliah has served as the sophomore class vice president and junior class president for Student Council. Her efforts in organizing class unity events and fundraising activities, such as the car wash for Victory Junction, an organization that offers free, life-changing camp experiences for children with serious illnesses, showcases her dedication to positive impact.

Kaliah's service activities outside of school include volunteering at the Union County Special Olympics and welcoming students at local elementary schools. One of the most touching aspects of her community involvement is her favorite service activity, spending time with students at Walter Bickett Education Center. Along with other Forest Hills Club Leaders, she sponsors a child before Christmas, gifting and visiting them in class, showcasing her compassion and positive influence on others.

Kaliah is planning to attend East Carolina University and major in nursing.
