First grade students began science discussing what they knew and what they thought they knew about fall in North Carolina. After discussing and making predictions they watched a video on the changing season patterns in the United States. Students then went on a scavenger hunt around Hemby Bridge Elementary observing and collecting evidence of the change from summer to fall. After they collected items they brought their items inside and compared what fall looks like in North Carolina to the current season of spring in Australia. Students were interested to learn that Australia is in the Southern Hemisphere and the United States is in the Northern Hemisphere and that we have opposite seasons.
