Fifth Graders Welcome Veterans

Hemby Bridge Elementary students welcomed veterans Jim Hood, Jack Campbell and 91 year old veteran James Crump from Indian Trail VFW Post #2423 in honor of Veteran’s Day. After learning in class about this special holiday, students listened to stories of their military experiences and the importance and meaning of the American Flag. After discovering the contributions of these heroes, students practiced the responsibilities of flag raising and proper handling of the American flag. These students will have the responsibility of raising and lowering the nation’s flag in front of the school. “It has been such a privilege to meet these men and convey our appreciation for their sacrificial service,” stated Mrs. Brianna Anderson. While at Hemby Bridge, veterans met and spoke to Hemby Bridge third grade teacher and Desert Storm veteran Sharon Patrick. As fellow veterans, they each shared their own service and military experiences.
