First graders inquired, explored, observed and drew conclusions that led them to understand how forces, pushes and pulls, affect the motion of objects. They created a marble drawing, identified and played on playground equipment where they were pushing and pulling, blew through a straw and had marshmallow races, and experimented with their own sling shot. Magnetic force was also explored, leaving the students to conclude that magnets attract and repel without touch. This week we will make predictions and problem solve to use position and weight to balance objects and create ramps using recycled materials for marble races. What fun first graders are having studying forces and motion!
