Music Class Meets Science

On Thursday March 15th, second graders throughout Union County attended the Fred Ingold Festival at Forest Hills High School.  Mr. Ingold was a principal at several schools in Union County and the festival is held in his memory.  He loved music and he would love to go into the music classrooms with students and play on the instruments and learn the songs. The Union County Community Arts Council generously funds the grant to make this field trip possible.

The festival is held at three different locations throughout the county.  Marshville attended the festival at Forest Hills High School. This year students were treated to performances by the Forest Hills High School Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Mrs. Humphries, and the Southwest Middle School String Orchestra from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg School System.  The students were able to see and hear all the different instruments of the band, and the orchestra.  This coincided with the music classroom curriculum of grouping instruments by family, and with the second grade science curriculum study of sound. Second grade were also not only audience members, but they also performed the song “America.”

Students were very excited to get to see the instruments in person and loved hearing all the different sounds.
