Marvin Ridge Students Compete in County Poetry Out Loud Contest
The Union County District Poetry Out Loud: Recitation Contest was held at CATA High School on Tuesday afternoon. The Poetry Out Loud Contest was created in 2006 by the National Endowment for the by The Poetry Foundation. The contest seeks to increase awareness in the art of performing poetry, with substantial cash prizes being awarded to schools that participate, and includes representatives from each of the fifty states, the District of Columbia, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Thirteen students from five area high schools competed in dramatic recitation of two poems each. Marvin Ridge held its school competition in November, organized by Ms. Morrison and the English Honor Society. The first, second and third place winners from that competition competed in the county competition yesterday: Jailyn Tineo(1st), Hadley Hayes(2nd), and Holly Walker(3rd) all represented the Mavericks well according to Mrs. Every and Mrs. May who both attended to support their students. Mrs. Every was also a panelist. Congratulations to our school winners. We are proud of you!
