Marvin Ridge High School DECA students earn international honors at recent DECA International Career Development Conference

May 6, 2019 (Waxhaw, NC) – The Marvin Ridge High School DECA club took home several top honors during the DECA International Career Development Conference (ICDC), which took place in Orlando, Florida the last week of April. Over 22,000 students from across the US and multiple international countries gathered to compete at ICDC in an array of business and marketing events, as well as attend various business leadership academies.

The club itself earned honors as one of only ten NC high school chapters to be awarded Thrive chapter status, meaning the MRHS club met strict national DECA guidelines for their membership, community service, and promotional campaigns.  Because of this honor, six students were selected to attend the Thrive Leadership Academy at the ICDC event.

Two MRHS students were also recognized as top international competitors in their division.

Freshman Sophia Freeman was recognized as one of the Top 10 written test competitors internationally in her area of competition, Sophia Freeman Marketing Communications.  Junior Jack Stephen was also recognized as one of the Top 10 role play competitors in the Personal Financial Literacy event.  Additionally, Jack was one of only 5 competitors from the entire state of NC to be recognized as an overall Top 10 international competitor Personal Financial Literacy.  This was the best ICDC showing ever for the Marvin Ridge High School DECA club.
