Abigail Wan receives the John H. Crowder Service Award
For over three decades, John H. Crowder dedicated his life to supporting the youth of Union County. In honor of his enduring contributions and lasting impact, the Union County Board of Education presented the John H. Crowder Service Award for April to a Marvin Ridge High junior.
As the founder of the Youth4Abolition Club, Abigail Wan has demonstrated exceptional initiative and organizational skills. Under her leadership, the club successfully organized nine local fundraisers, raising a total of $50,605 to support survivors of human trafficking. Her dedication to this cause is evident in her ability to plan and host a compelling Q&A panel featuring survivors, Federal Bureau of Investigation agents and Non-Governmental Organization directors, which attracted more than 200 attendees and garnered media coverage from WCNC-TV. Her efforts educated her peers and also inspired them, leading to the club’s growth to 106 members.
Abigail has also shown her leadership capabilities as the Student Council class president from ninth to 11th grade and was recently elected to the position for her senior year. She has played a pivotal role in organizing major school events, including the winter formal and prom. Her ability to manage significant responsibilities, coordinate with various stakeholders and execute successful events is a testament to her leadership, community focus and organizational expertise.
Abigail plans to major in public policy and is currently undecided about her college of choice.
