The Health Sciences Academy at Monroe High School

The Health Sciences Academy at Monroe High School will provide ninth graders in the 2020-2021 school year with the opportunity to partner with Atrium Health throughout their high school experience. Students may choose one of several health science pathways based on their interests. Freshmen will take 2 introductory courses which include Career Management and Health Science I.

During the Spring semester of their freshmen year, students will decide on a health science pathway for the rest of their high school experience. These pathways will prepare students to be college and career ready for entering the healthcare industry.  Students will be able to prepare for either a clinical or non-clinical career. A clinical career is one that involves assisting patients and includes doctors, nurses, pharmacy technicians, physical therapy technicians, etc. A non-clinical career would prepare students for many of the jobs in health care that do not involve patients directly. These kind of careers include business administration and facilities management.

Students who complete this program may earn a certificate that will lead to a job right after graduation. Completing the program will also prepare students to attend a community college or a four year university. Classes student could take may include: Health Science I and II, Project Lead the Way Biomedical, Robotics I and II, Microsoft Excel, Medical Coding and Billing, Public Safety, Nurse Aide and many more.

If you are a rising ninth grader or a parent of a rising ninth grader and are interested, please complete the Health Sciences Academy Application. Be sure to fill out the application by the deadline which is March 2 at midnight. Students may apply for multiple programs throughout the county and decide which program they will participate in later in the spring. However, they will not be able to apply after the deadline.
