New Salem Elementary celebrated a great accomplishment of raising $4,271.92 during a fundraiser called Pennies for Patients by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. All monies raised will go towards bettering the lives of children with blood cancers and their families, as well as towards research to help find a cure.
This fundraiser really touched our hearts as we have two of our students going through treatments for their own cancers. Those students were invited to participate in our assembly where they were presented with cards made by their 240 peers.
Our school family came together! Each class was challenged to bring in their pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters each day for one week. Our school goal was $750 which was exceeded by leaps and bounds!
We celebrated during a school wide assembly where each class was presented with a bronze, silver or gold pennant, based on the total amount raised by each classroom. The top two classes who raised the most were Mrs. Anita Whitley/s 3rd grade class, and Mrs. Medlin’s 4th grade class. Mrs. Whitley’s class earned a pizza party, and Mrs. Medlin’s class earned a pasta lunch at Olive Garden. NSES staff were so proud of our students’ participation that we also celebrated as a school by having music and ice pops during lunch.
At New Salem Elementary, we are proud to have participated so boldly in the Pennies for Patients fundraiser and showed our New Salem Pride!
