Spotlight on 5th Grade

The school year is off to a rocketing start, and in fifth grade that is our mindset! With the current push for explore and extend activities that the county has provided us, we have quickly seen the wonderful and exciting effects it has had on the students.

With the explore tasks, it is refreshing to see their collaboration together and use of problem solving skills. Students are actively engaged, and eager to solve the problem presented, using their prior knowledge, questioning skills, and peers. At the end of a lesson, students are hungry to have more, to dig a little deeper into the concept that they were taught that day, and this is where the extend task comes into play. With this aspect, we have had the pleasure of watching the students really dig deeper in to concepts.  To really pull together different mindsets, though processes, and even skills and concepts, to pull together and answer extend task questions.

To see the students really engaged and eager to learn is something that is empowering!
