Students visit Lancaster Wastewater Treatment Plant

Morgan Mr. Morgan's AP Environmental Science students took a trip to the Lancaster Wastewater Treatment Plant Friday, October 25, along with some of Ms. Mims' Clean Energy students. On average 1.5 to 2 million gallons of wastewater travel through the plant each day. First, primary treatment removes material that floats or settles out by gravity.

The solids (sludge) is pumped out to be disposed of in an environmentally beneficial manner. Finally, the water is disinfected to kill microorganisms. Some of our students even had the opportunity to put on gloves and handle the solids! waste
