Beta Club visits 2nd grade students in Parkwood cluster
Each year Beta Club takes time out of their schedules to build relationships with the younger students in our cluster through a reading program called Beta Buddies. Parkwood students choose picture books with global settings and travel to Waxhaw, Western Union and Prospect Elementary schools to read to 2nd grade students. After reading the books, the 2nd graders have an opportunity to decorate a book cover for their book and place it on a map near the country or continent where the story takes place. Before leaving each school, Parkwood students get to leave 2nd graders with a stuffed animal to be their "reading buddy" each day. This day is always a fun experience for all involved.
