Academic Language Facilitators participated in two staff development sessions on SIOP (Sheltered Instruction observation Protocol) strategies and academic language support tools and activities. The sessions took place at the Academic Support Center on Monday, March 20th and Thursday, April 20, 2017.
Mrs. Helen Giles facilitated the sessions and shared research based strategies that can be implemented inside and outside the classroom to support English language learners. These interactive learning sessions are part of the ongoing staff development efforts by the ESL (English as a Second Language) Department to promote the social, academic and linguistic growth of all students.
Participants reviewed a variety of strategies and activities that will help them assist both teachers and students in the learning process. Furthermore, participants shared strategies they already use to support access to academic language inside and outside the classroom.
The ESL Department is proud of the hard work and dedication of Academic Language Facilitators. Their ongoing collaboration with teachers, administrators and parents is essential to the success of all students.
