Staff at East Elementary participated in the third staff development session of ExC-ELL (Expediting Comprehension for English Language Learners). They experienced and explored hands-on instructional strategies designed to boost writing skills in the content areas.
The staff first engaged in a cooperative learning writing activity called, “Write Around”, then used the “Cut and Grow” activity to elaborate on their composition and make it richer and more exciting.
Next they enjoyed “Tear-Ups”, where they tore colored paper to represent shapes and used those shapes as a basis to write a story about the Olympics.
Staff at East will continue to collaboratively design and implement fun, effective, rigorous learning activities which engage all students!
